Inspired

I have been following along with the blog Project Run & Play since it's first "season" last year. It's basically Project Runway for bloggers making children's clothes. Each week has a "theme" and at the end of the week, the bloggers outfits are presented on the blog and voted on by readers and "celebrity" judges (well-known bloggers). One participant is eliminated each week, and the winner shares a tutorial for the outfit they created. It's really inspiring, and I went a little sewing crazy last week making a few things for Mollie using fabric from my stash!

This skirt is the first thing I made:
Then I did this skirt:
Then I made her this "knot dress". I was looking at Simplicity patterns online and saw a dress like this and thought it was really cute. Then I started looking at patterns on Etsy, and there are patterns like this all over the place! It seemed like every pattern seller had created a pattern for a knot dress, check it out. It makes me wonder who came up with it first! Anyways, it's such a simple design so I created my own pattern. You really only need a pattern for the bodice, and I just traced the bodice of a jumper style dress that she already has. The skirt section and the straps can really be any width and length.
When I tried it on her, she said that it was her "birthday dress". I don't know why she said that, but it will be perfect to wear for her birthday, and it'll fit a little better then too!

This is the last thing I made. I had a ton of this fabric left over from a dress I made a long time ago, and when I was looking through my stash and saw it, I remembered this green bias tape I had. The print of the fabric and the bias tape made me think '60s, and I instantly thought it would make an adorable '60s style dress for Mollie.
I used the "Simple Dress" pattern from Lotta Jansdotter's Simple Sewing for Baby. I just modified it by adding about 8 inches to the middle of the front, making a box pleat at the top, and putting the bias tape on the outside instead of inside of the neck and armholes.
I can't wait for her to wear it with some knee high socks and mary-janes!

  1. Those dresses are all so adorable! And it's great that you made them all with leftover fabrics, too. I think my favorite is the '60's inspired dress.
