4th of July 2017

The 4th of July has become one of my favorite holidays since moving to Michigan four years ago, and I love the memories and traditions we're making! This year, we kicked off our celebration the night before the 4th by grilling out, decorating the kids' bikes and wagon for our town's bike parade, and sparklers and pop-it's. Evie LOVED the sparklers, so I know she'll be all about getting to hold one herself next year.

The next morning we headed out bright and early downtown to get the kids registered for the bike, wagon, and pet parade around the fountain. The past two years we've gone to watch the parade, but this was our first time participating. Stu pulled Evie and Lincoln in the wagon. I walked with Dede at her request, and Mollie rode by herself. I know she enjoyed that small taste of freedom :)

We came home just long enough for the kids to get into play clothes, and we headed to the "Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration" at Historic Charleton Park, in Hastings, MI. I had learned about the park earlier in the year when searching for a location to take Easter pictures of the kids. We didn't end up going them, but it sounded so intriguing that I knew we had to visit soon. They have a collection of real historic buildings put together in a "village" that you can tour. They do special events throughout the year, and the 4th of July celebration sounded perfect, with a bbq buffet, old fashioned games/races, pie judging contest and auction, etc. The girls did a few of the events, and we enjoyed walking through most of the buildings.

Finally, we headed into downtown Hastings for an early dinner at the Waldorff Brew Pub & Bistro. We didn't quite know what to expect, but it was delicious and was in a super cool old building to boot. At the risk of sounding cliche, it was a perfect ending to a perfect day.
